The Pagosa Springs area is rich in history and events providing a funfilled opportunity for your summer getaway. The Anasazi inhabited the area at nearby Chimney Rock Ruins where these ancient farmers lived some 1,000 years ago. Pagosa Springs is well known for its hot springs, which is where its name is derived. The Utes called the hot springs "Pagosah," meaning "healing waters."

During the summer enjoy horseback riding in the surrounding wilderness areas, fishing Williams Creek Reservoir, rafting or kayaking the San Juan and Piedra rivers, and waterskiing, windsurfing and sailing on Navajo Lake. Hiking to Treasure Falls and prospecting on Treasure Mountain are other popular summer attractions.

Snow season also brings many activities to experience. Nearby Wolf Creek ski area gets "The most snow in Colorado" for snow riders. Snowmobiling, ice-skating, cross-country skiing or enjoying a horse-drawn sleigh ride are also available winter activities in Pagosa Springs.

Be sure to visit Chama, New Mexico while in the Pagosa Springs Area. The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad provides a look at the past while meandering through the Rocky Mountains along the Colorado/New Mexico border. Regardless of the weather, the Pagosa Springs area offers a plethora of activities for your Colorado Getaway!
