Once used as a rest stop for travelers going to and from Denver, this town is now a great attraction for historical sights. Just 162 miles east of Denver on I-70, Burlington is a "one-tank" day trip from Denver. Burlington is home to the Kit Carson County Carousel. The Carousel, built in 1905, is a hand carved wooden merry-go-round. With the intricate detail of each animal and oil paintings that portray various subjects of the time, this ride is well worth the 25 cent admission. The Carousel is open all summer through Labor day 1 PM to 8 PM. Make sure you visit Old Town Museum, a collection of 1900s' buildings, full of antiques and exhibits. Buy a tour ticket and enjoy the bonus of an evening melodrama performed in a gigantic red barn. Old Town Museum is open everyday all year until 5 PM. Top off your day with a chocolate malt or a sundae prepared just the way you like at the old fashioned soda fountain. Delight in the peaceful feeling of this small, historic, secluded town, and leave the stress of the big cities behind you.
