San Juan Backcountry was established in the 1990's. San Juan is one of the oldest touring Company's in Colorado. The San Juan area around Silverton, Colorado is some of America's most pristine wilderness -- ready for you to enjoy. We are excited to offer guided tours of the majestic San Juan Backcountry near Silverton, Colorado. Whether you choose 4x4, ATV, Bicycling or hiking, we offer guides for just plain fun! Your backcountry guides will allow you to enjoy spectacular scenery from 9,300 to 13,000 feet and learn about its history. Tour guides will take you to the best places to hike, fish and explore. San Juan Backcountry has chosen two areas in the San Juan Mountains to have Dinner Tours: the Mineral Creek Basin and Eureka Gulch. The dinner tour is approximately three hours and includes a tour in one of our open top suburban or jeeps with a tour guide that will give you pieces of history along the way. Your meal will be ready and waiting. The campfire will be going and the coffee will be hot. Explore the area and enjoy a wonderful meal, and sing around the campfire. Dinner tours run from June 23rd thru September 15th. Mineral Creek Basin: This is a beautiful spot at a lower elevation. You are in a valley surrounded with mountains. Eureka Gulch: At an elevation of approximately 10,000 feet, this location has a mine you can explore and a hiking trail you can explore. Both locations are breathtaking with mountain streams, wildflowers and hopefully wildlife. You choose! Dinner tours are available Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings departing from our office at 5 pm and return at 8 pm. RATES: 12 and Up: $75; Under 12: $35; and Under 3: Free. From 9,318 feet in Silverton, to over 13,000 feet! That's where we can take you in the comfort of our open-topped suburbans. One hundred years ago these roads were used by miners and mail carriers, businessmen and thieves. Come experience the beauty and serenity of a mountain range heralded as the most beautiful in the world, the San Juans. Let our professional drivers treat you to a day of spectacular scenery and history all rolled into one. A sack lunch can be purchased for an additional $9.00 on full-day tours, ask for details. 4x4 Tour Prices Full Day Tour: Adult $120; Child (12 & under) $70 Half Day Tour: Adult $60; Child (12 & under) $40 2 Hour Tour: Adult $40; Child (12 & under) $30 There are over 700 miles of Jeep trails available at your fingertips, plus the most beautiful scenery in the world. You will be traveling over old wagon roads and seeing ghost towns, mines, wildflowers and waterfalls. As you drive, you will go back in history a 100 years. The most popular routes are the Alpine Loop and the Ophir-Imogene Loop. We have maps available. There are many routes to take and we will be happy to suggest the best options based on what you want to see and where you want to go. Rental Requirements: Drivers must be 25 years old and have a valid driver's license and show proof of full coverage insurance. A credit cad in the drivers name is also required. Type of Jeeps: Choose between hard and soft top and between automatic and stick shift. Our vehicles are well-maintained and are inspected after each rental. Full Day 2-door Jeeps: $150 Per Day + 9% Tax Full Day 4-door Jeeps: $180 Per Day + 9% Tax Pick up time: 8 am Return time: 5 pm Jeeps must be returned with a full tank of gas or there will be an additional charge of $25 plus the gas it takes to fill the jeep up. San Juan Backcountry offers both Guided ATV Tours and unguided ATV Rental. We allow you to have the most exciting vacation possible on an ATV in the San Juan Mountains. If you enjoy the outdoors, this is a great adventure! Enjoy riding your own All-Terrain Vehicle while exploring the mines, ghost towns, smelling the wildflowers and taking in all the beauty around you, such as waterfalls, wildlife or whatever the next turn brings you. Our customers come away loving the San Juan Backcountry and come back year after year. Include with your ATV Tour or Rental are a Helmet, Face Shields or goggles, gas, instructions on how to operate the ATV, safety instructions, and ATV drop off and pickup. Requirements: To operate an ATV you must be at least 16 years old with a driver's license. One rider per ATV. Reservations are recommended. Rental Rates: 2-hour ATV Rental: $75 Half Day ATV Rental: 8 am - 12 pm or 1 pm - 5 pm: $100

Custom Tours: Create a customized tour based on what you want to see. Explore mountain tops, rivers, mines and more -- the possibilities are endless. Our custom trips include: photography trips, rock-hounding, group campfire dinners (think wedding receptions, family reunions, corporate retreats, business meetings), railroad history, boy scouts, girl scouts, and church groups. Please reserve equipment as soon as possible. Especially in peak season that is at the end of June thru the middle of August.
